Sandeep Reddy Vanga opened up about Parineeti Chopra’s exit from Animal. For the unversed, Parineeti Chopra was the first choice for Geetanjali’s role in the Ranbir Kapoor starrer. However, Parineeti was replaced by Rashmika Mandanna in the film. While Sandeep had previously revealed that Parineeti did not fit the role when they did the look test, he has now revealed that he had shown her the door one and a half year after he signed her for the film and she was upset with the turn of events.
Speaking with trade analyst Komal Nahta, the Animal director revealed that though upset, Parineeti understood that the right casting mattered for the film. “Actually, galati mera hi hai. I said, ‘Ho sake toh maaf karo mujhe.’ I signed her one and a half years before the shoot and for some reason, I didn’t see Geetanjali in her. Kuch kuch characters kuch kuch logo ko set nahi hota hai,” Sandeep Reddy Vanga said.
He added that he has been a fan of her work since he’s known her and added that he also considered her for Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor in the lead. “I always wanted to work with her. I told her and she also knows that. I told her, ‘Sorry, nothing is bigger than the film. So I’m taking this decision and going ahead with another artist.’ She felt bad but she understood why I was saying that,” he added.
Animal starred Ranbir Kapoor in the lead while Rashmika played his wife Geetanjali in the film. The actors played a toxic couple whose marriage was heavily impacted by the man’s love for his father. Animal has done phenomenal business at the box office, earning over Rs 532.77 crores (at the time of reporting) in India alone. The film has become Ranbir Kapoor’s biggest hit of his career.
