Rohit Shetty On Criticism Against Cop Universe, Glorification Of Police Brutality: 'If Someone Is Shooting You...'
Rohit Shetty opened up about people who criticize his cop universe for glorifying police brutality.

Rohit Shetty is the pioneer of the cop universe in India. The film-maker who has churned out films like Singham, Sooryavanshi, Simmba is currently filming the next installment with Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor. Amid this, Shetty is also making a foray into the OTT space with debut series Indian Police Force. While fans love him, others have criticised him for glorification of police brutality. Rohit Shetty addressed just that in his recent interview.

Speaking with Film Companion, Rohit Shetty explained his stance, “I’m clear in my head about what I’m saying. All of us here are cultured people, but that life is a totally different life. Imagine if you’re going to office and you’re meeting a druggie, a rapist, someone who has chopped the head of an innocent person. When you deal with those kinds of people, you have a different frame of mind altogether.”

He added, “Obviously I’m against killing innocent people, I’m against them taking the law in their hand. But if someone is shooting at you, you won’t welcome them with open arms, would you? It is important to instill fear in the society. I firmly believe in this, and it’s okay if I get trolled for saying this. I know of an incident where they went to arrest someone, and as soon as they opened the door, they got shot at. They didn’t even have bulletproof vests, they had to protect themselves with chairs. What should they do? They will retaliate.”

Meanwhile, the highly anticipated trailer of the Indian Police Force was dropped on January 5. The upcoming series promises an entertainment extravaganza, high on action, suspense, thrill, and drama, taking audiences worldwide on an immersive journey into the next chapter of Rohit Shetty’s iconic Cop Universe. Created and directed by Rohit Shetty, the cop action drama also marks his digital directorial debut in a spectacle that is headlined by Shilpa Shetty, Sidharth Malhotra. Besides Malhotra, the ensemble cast also boasts Vivek Oberoi, Shweta Tiwari, Nikitin Dheer, Rituraj Singh, Mukesh Rishi, Lalit Parimoo in pivotal roles.

It pays a heartfelt tribute to the selfless service, unwavering commitment, and fierce patriotism of Indian police officers who put everything on the line in their call of duty to keep the nation safe. The seven-episode series is set to premiere exclusively on January 19, 2024, on Prime Video in India.

The trailer takes viewers on a nail-biting ride through various cityscapes, each frame heightening the suspense with a ticking bomb clock that ultimately culminates in explosive blasts.
