Bollywood generally pays more to actors, as compared to leading actresses. Now, the times are changing. Earlier, actors were given more screen time and importance. Actresses were asked to play notable roles in less payroll. Still, there were a few actresses who made the cut and were paid more than even the most popular actors. The actress we are referring to is none other than Madhuri Dixit. In the 1990s, Madhuri Dixit had a huge stardom. There were times when her fees were more than the Khan trio. Madhuri Dixit became the biggest female superstar because of her huge fan following. When Sridevi took a break from acting in 1997, it was Madhuri Dixit who benefitted the most.
Madhuri was reportedly making about Rs 1.50 crore for a movie back then. That’s more money than the top Bollywood heroes like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan were getting. In the 1990s, she was incredibly popular, so she got paid even more than the famous male actors.
Madhuri Dixit wasn’t just a great actress, she was an incredible dancer too. Back in the early 90s, she impressed everyone with her awesome acting and fiery dance moves. In the 1993 movie Khalnayak, she had everyone dancing, especially in the song Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai, where her romantic dance moves were the talk of the town.
The song stirred up a lot of commotion throughout India. Many folks thought it was too bold and didn’t match Indian traditions. Almost every political party in India spoke out against the song Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai, and they even discussed it in the Lok Sabha.
Madhuri Dixit got married in 2001 and now lives in America with her husband, Dr Shriram Nene. Her last movie before she moved to the US was Devdas. Then she made a comeback in 2007 with Aaja Nachle. After taking another break, she returned to acting in 2014 with Dedh Ishqiya. Since then, she has been in movies like Gulab Gang, Total Dhamaal, and Kalank. In 2022, she joined OTT with The Fame Game.
