Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson Discharged from Hospital After Coronavirus Diagnosis, Says Couple's Son Chet
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have been released from a Queensland hospital in Australia and are now in self-quarantine at their home there.

Hollywood couple Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have been discharged from an Australian hospital where they were in isolation since testing positive for the coronavirus, their son, Chet Hanks said.

Hanks and Wilson are now in self-quarantine at a rented home in Australia, a representative for Hanks told CNN on Monday.

Last week, Hanks revealed that he and his actor wife tested positive for COVID-19 in Australia, where the multiple Oscar winner actor was working on Baz Lurhmann's Elvis Presley biopic. He is set to play Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, in the Warner Bros production. The production on the film is currently suspended due to coronavirus outbreak. Wilson, also a singer-songwriter, had given concerts in Sydney and Brisbane before testing positive for the virus.

Chet, their son has now said both his parents, 63, had been released from hospital and were feeling a lot better. "They're out of the hospital. They're still self-quarantined, obviously, but they're feeling a lot better. So that's a relief.

"I just want to say to anyone else out there who has loved ones or if you yourself are afflicted with the virus, my prayers go out to you because a lot of people are suffering other than my parents right now. I just wish everyone a swift and speedy recovery," the 29-year-old said in an Instagram video on Monday.

Chet said it is important to stay calm as panic makes things "more difficult than they need to be".

Hanks and Wilson earlier took to Instagram to share the news about being tested positive for coronavirus last Thursday.

"We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,' Hanks said in his first Instagram post about the diagnosis. "Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks' will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? We'll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!"

Hanks and Wilson were the first major American celebrities known to have contracted the coronavirus. After James Bond actress Olga Kurylenko tested positive for Covid-19, on Monday, actor Idris Elba and Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund Giantsbane on the HBO series, also said they've tested positive for coronavirus.
