Tanya Abrol is popularly known for playing the role of Balbir Kaur in the 2007 film Chak De India. The actress worked with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in the movie. In an interview with Times Now, Tanya recalled her work experience with the actor. She mentioned that Shah Rukh once sneaked cashews on set for her when she was hungry. Tanya said, “He helped me out once while we were shooting. We were not allowed to take food on the turf, there were strict instructions. I was really hungry. Shah Rukh Khan sir got some cashews for me in his pocket. I was like ‘aap to star ho hum naye hai hume daant padegi production house se.’ He is very down-to-earth.”
When asked if she is still in touch with Shah Rukh Khan, Tanya Abrol said, “No, no aisa nahin hain. (It’s not like that) But when we meet at promotions, etc, he is very kind to me. He ask me, ‘yaha kya kar rahi hain? (What are you doing here?) ‘ I laugh and say, ‘bas kaam kar rahe hain’ (Just working).
Tanya said that she still considers Chak De India a blessing and the film has given her a character that everyone remembers. She said, “First day at Badal (her new television show), the character who played Swati (Bani’s mom), their parents were on the sets. They came up to me and said, ‘We’ve watched your film more than 100 times.’ How often do people get to hear that? They remember my character too. Kabhi kabhi typecast ki problem aati hai but it’s fine. (Sometimes I get typecasted but it’s fine).
Directed by Shimit Amin, Chak De India featured an ensemble cast including Vidya Malvade, Chitrashi Rawat, Sagarika Ghatge, Tanya Abrol, Anaitha Nair and more. Shah Rukh Khan played an ex-Indian hockey coach, who was previously accused of cheating his country in a global hockey tournament. He starts coaching the Indian women’s national hockey team to show his devotion to the nation.
In addition to Chak De India, Tanya Abrol has been part of television shows like Best of Luck Nikki and CID. She is currently starring in the Sony TV series Badall Pe Paon Hai. She is playing the role of Lali, the new housekeeper in the Khanna household.
