Swara Bhasker responded to a social media user who mocked her for gaining weight during pregnancy. On Friday, food blogger Nalini Unagar shared a picture collage of Swara. One photo showed Swara in a white outfit before her wedding, and another showed her in a saree after getting married and having a baby. The caption of the second photo read, “What did she eat?” Reacting to the tweet, Swara replied, “She had a baby. And do better, Nalini!”
Recently, Swara had voiced criticism against Nalini for her tweet declaring pride in being a vegetarian. On X, Nalini posted a photo of her meal featuring fried rice and a paneer dish. Alongside the photo, Nalini wrote, “I’m proud to be a vegetarian. My plate is free from tears, cruelty and guilt.”

Swara wrote, reacting to it, “Honestly… I don’t understand this smug self-righteousness of vegetarians. Your entire diet is made up of denying the calf its mother’s milk.. forcibly impregnating cows, then separating them from their babies & stealing their milk. You eat root vegetables? That kills the whole plant! Please relax with the virtue signalling just because it’s Bakr Eid! (Folded hands emojis).”
Swara Bhasker’s performance was appreciated in films like Tanu Weds Manu, Raanjhanaa and Anarkali of Aarah among others. However, despite much critical acclaim, the actress did not appear in many mainstream movies. Known for never mincing her words, Swara recently said that voicing her opinions on social media cost her her career.
Speaking to Connect Cine, Swara said, “If there was anything in the world that was most expensive for me, it was my Twitter account because it cost me my career, in a sense… For a lot of producers, I am untouchable in the industry and these are not my words, these are the words of my well-wishers, producer, director friends who have called me up and told me. People tell me that we wanted to cast you but the studio heard your name and said no.”
