Story 9 Months Ki, starring actors Sukirti Kandpal and Aashay Mishra in the lead roles, tells the story of young, independent Alia Shroff who decides to become a mother through IVF. In other words, she wants to become a mother without going through the burden of a marriage. She believes that if there can be marriage without love, there surely can be a mother without a father. It’s a first time for any such concept on Indian television.

This progressive concept was appreciated by many, including Bollywood choreographer Farah Khan and television actress Anita Hassanandani. They agreed that women have a right to decide when and how to conceive.

As promised, the show showed Alia opting for IVF to become a mother. She was also seen working hard and taking care of herself. But then, Sarangdhar comes to know that he is Alia’s donor. He starts getting protective about her. So much that everyone starts thinking that the two are together and Alia is pregnant with their love child. However, initially Alia clears saying that he is just a friend.

Soon, Sarangdhar starts calling Alia’s child as ‘mera baccha’. It doesn’t take long for Alia to join him in calling her child as ‘hamara baccha’. The two then fall in love. I think the love story would fit only if Sarangdhar had fallen in love with Alia without being aware about him being the donor.

Sarangdhar now wants to get married to Alia. However, Alia is still a little reluctant about marriage.

Not withholding, Sukriti, who returned to the small screen after two years with this show had said, “This show is not just about IVF and one character. There are numerous characters in the show. We have Alia’s emotional life, we have other characters’ emotional life. There are lot of things that everybody will relate to.”

However, the questions persists: why do you need to force a show into churning out a lovestory without any actual need. It was good while sticking to the theme, and that was more in support of the thought process of a free, independent woman.
