SRK’s School Teacher Dies in Goa; Actor Once Called Him 'The Only Man I Look Up To'
Shah Rukh Khan’s former school teacher, Brother Eric Steve D’Souza, passed away in Goa, leaving a lasting impact on the actor. Shah Rukh had previously expressed deep admiration for Brother D’Souza, calling him the “only man in the world” he looked up to.

Shah Rukh Khan’s former school teacher, Brother Eric Steve D’Souza, passed away on Sunday in Goa. The actor had previously expressed deep admiration for Brother D’Souza, calling him the “only man in the world that I really look up to.” In recent months, as D’Souza’s health worsened, Congress leader Szarita Laitphlang had reached out to Shah Rukh, requesting him to visit his former teacher. However, according to Meghalaya Monitor, Szarita mentioned that the meeting did not happen.

Back in 2002, during an interview on Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, Shah Rukh described Brother D’Souza as his “guiding light.” Brother D’Souza had taught him at St. Columba’s School in Delhi. “If there is one man in this whole wide world… I don’t have idols or anyone that I look up to, but he is the only man in the world that I really look up to. He taught us how to play football, to play hockey. I had a lot of energy and he channelised it so we didn’t become taporis, or gundas or badmaash because it’s very easy to get misled during youth. And he made sure that he gave us enough work and with great fun, he used to play the guitar for us, sing songs for us. He really is the guiding light of my life. I love him,” Shah Rukh had shared.

The actor had also mentioned, “I speak for all of us in the C-gang and everyone who’s educated at St Columba’s or elsewhere where he is teaching… if there is anybody else on this earth if I think [of] after my parents and look up to, it’s Brother D’Souza.”

A few months ago, Szarita Laitphlang made a heartfelt plea on social media, urging Shah Rukh to visit Brother D’Souza during his final days. “This feels like my final plea, my last attempt to reach out to @iamsrk to humbly request his presence by the side of Brother Eric S D’Souza. Each day, Brother’s health weakens, his condition worsening with every passing moment. Mumbai, just an hour away by flight, holds the possibility of bringing solace to his ailing heart. DASU has left an indelible mark on all of our lives, shaping us into who we are today through his unwavering commitment to instilling values. Your visit would mean the world to him, a beacon of hope in his darkest hours,” she posted.

Shah Rukh Khan, often hailed as the King of Bollywood, has mesmerized audiences throughout his career with a wide range of performances, including iconic negative roles in films like Baazigar and Darr. In 2023, he thrilled fans with high-octane action in Pathaan and Jawan, while also delivering a more lighthearted role in Dunki. Now, the superstar is preparing to venture into darker territory once again with his upcoming film King, where he will portray an assassin.

Journalist Rahul Raut recently reported that Shah Rukh’s character in King will be a lethal assassin. Raut took to X to share that the action thriller, directed by Sujoy Ghosh and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, is expected to begin filming by the end of the year. The film’s cast includes talents like Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Abhay Varma, further heightening anticipation for this big-budget project.

Interestingly, Shah Rukh had recently revealed his desire to play an assassin during his appearance at the 77th Locarno Film Festival in August 2024. While attending the event, he joined the Locarno Meets podcast, where he shared his thoughts on future roles he hopes to take on. When asked about characters he’d like to explore, SRK expressed his enthusiasm for delving deeper into complex roles. “I am not stereotyped; I am hero type,” he quipped, highlighting his tendency to play grand, larger-than-life characters.
