Sonakshi Sinha recently got married to her long-time beau Zaheer Iqbal in an intimate ceremony at her Bandra residence. The newlyweds then held a grand reception at Bastian restaurant, which was attended by the likes of Salman Khan, Rekha, Honey Singh, Aditi Rao Hydari and Huma Qureshi among others. In a recent chat, Sonakshi revealed why she opted for a big reception after an intimate ceremony.
Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Sonakshi said, “We had each other and this is something that we wanted to do for so long and we were very clear how we wanted it to be. We wanted it to be small and intimate.” She added, “We also wanted our reception to be one big party where everybody just has fun. I didn’t want to take any stress so my house was an open house. Everybody was coming and going while I was getting my hair and makeup done. Friends are chilling in the wardrobe, decor is going on, the food is being set up. So it was literally like an open house and that’s how I wanted my D-Day to be like. It felt so homely and beautiful. It was perfect.”
Not only was Sonakshi’s wedding a simple affair but she also ditched an elaborate lehenga for elegant sarees. For her wedding, Sonakshi opted to wear her mother’s vintage Chikankari saree and then changed into a red Banarasi number for the reception. “I dressed simply because I wanted to be comfortable and I wanted to dance the most at my wedding, which I did,” she said.
Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal are currently enjoying their time together in the Philippines after finishing their work commitments. Taking to her Instagram Stories, Sonakshi posted a picture from their stay and wrote, “Honeymoon round 2. Now just waiting for Zaheer Iqbal to get here coz we had to take separate flights.” Zaheer responded with a sweet message, “Deewana on his way baby.”
Sonakshi Sinha’s path crossed with Zaheer Iqbal at a party hosted by Salman Khan in 2017 and their relationship quickly blossomed. After seven years of dating, the two got married in a private ceremony on June 23. Meanwhile, Sonakshi entered the entertainment industry in 2010 and made her big Bollywood debut in Dabangg, while Zaheer was introduced in 2019 in Salman Khan’s production, Notebook.
