It has been almost a decade since Shahid Kapoor’s Haider was released. Set against the tumultuous background of Kashmir, the film was Vishal Bhardwaj’s adaptation of Hamlet, offering a poignant reflection of the region’s situation. Due to the sensitive political context in Kashmir at the time, Haider was not initially released in the valley. However, it is now scheduled for a re-release for the Kashmiri audience soon.
Vikas Dhar, the owner of Inox Srinagar, spoke to Bollywood Hungama and confirmed the same, adding that the audiences in the region have a strong preference for films based on Kashmir or romantic stories. Based on a social media poll, where locals get to decide the next film they want to watch, the Shahid Kapoor starrer got the highest support.

In response to the popular demand, Haider will be released on September 20, 2024. With ticket prices as low as Rs 99, the film will be screened regularly at 2 PM and 2:30 PM. The bookings have now been opened for the tickets at Inox Srinagar.

Vikas also went on to share how the people in Kashmir demanded the screening of films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Rockstar, Jab We Met, 3 Idiots, Student of the Year, and Laila Majnu, among others. Earlier in August, Laila Majnu was re-released in Srinagar and received a warm response. “Now I am being told to bring many other films that people here haven’t seen since cinema halls were shut between the 1990s and 2022,” he added.
More About Haider
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the 2014 film tells the story of Haider Meer (Shahid Kapoor), who comes back to his conflict-ridden homeland to find his missing father. Upon returning, he ends up finding his mother married to his uncle, a prominent separatist leader.
As the story deepens, Haider grows suspicious that his uncle might have been behind his father’s death, leading him on a dangerous path of revenge. Besides Shahid, the film features an impressive ensemble of actors like Tabu, Shraddha Kapoor, and Kay Kay Menon.
