Sexual Assault Case Filed Against Malayalam Actor Edavela Babu

A case has been registered against Malayalam actor Edavela Babu after an actress reported him for inappropriate behaviour. The victim alleged that the actor had behaved inappropriately with her in connection with the AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) membership, following which the Ernakulam North police registered a case.

The actress had initially complained to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and had lodged a total of seven separate complaints. One of these complaints was specifically against actor Edavela Babu. The SIT had forwarded these statements in seven envelopes to the relevant police stations, following which the Ernakulam North police formally registered a case against Babu.

According to the allegations, Edavela Babu had behaved inappropriately with the actress and suggested to her that she had to make various compromises to get the AMMA membership. The actress added that she had given the investigation team more details which cannot be made public.

A case has also been registered against advocate VS Chandrasekharan, who is the chairman of the state committee of the Bar Congress. Following the allegations, Chandrasekhar resigned from his post. He is accused of taking the actress to a place under false pretences and revealing her to numerous people. The Central Police Station has filed this case against him as the second accused.

Three different police stations in Ernakulam district are handling the cases based on the seven complaints filed by the actress. The Ernakulam North police are investigating the allegations against Edavela Babu, the Ernakulam Central police are dealing with the case of advocate VS Chandrasekharan and the Maradu police are investigating a case involving MLA Mukesh. The investigation into all these cases is underway.

Edavela Babu is an Indian actor who appears in Malayalam cinema. He made his acting debut in 1982 with the film Idavela, after which he got his stage name. Since then, he has acted in over 200 films. Babu was the general secretary of the AMMA. He is currently a member of the political party Indian National Congress.
