Rajinikanth is back on the big screen with another mass entertainer. After its release on October 10, Vettaiyan has seen powerful numbers at the box office. After opening with Rs 31 crore on its release day in India, the action film has made a smashing entry in the Rs 200-crore club on Day 4 with its global box office numbers. Vettiyan’s production company took to the photo-sharing platform to share the happy news. As per the post, Vettiyan has collected Rs 240 crore in 4 days at the worldwide box office.
The producers wrote, along with the film’s poster, “Crosses 240+ crores worldwide and still counting! Thalaivar’s dominance knows no bounds.” Moreover, the film also crossed Rs 100 crore on the domestic market after collecting Rs 22.3 crore on Day 4, as per Sacnilk. Reports suggest that this is Rajinikanth’s 7th film to enter the 200-crore club. His other blockbuster films include 2.0, Jailer, Kabali, Enthiran, Darbar and Petta.
Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan follows the story of a retired cop played by Rajinikanth as he fights against the system. The film marks the collaboration of Rajinikanth with Amitabh Bachchan after 32 years. The powerful duo were last seen together in Mukul S Anand’s Hum. Apart from the two, Vettaiyan features a talented ensemble cast including Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier and Ritika Singh in pivotal roles.
Another notable aspect of the film is its music composed by Jawan fame Anirudh Ravichander. The songs of the film have seen chart breaking numbers. The track Manasilaayo which features Rajinikanth and Manju Warrier has been viewed more than 50 million times.
Vettiyan has received positive reviews from audiences and critics alike. The film has been praised for its gritty story, electrifying performances and powerful music. With themes such as justice, power, encounter killings and a corrupt education system, Vettaiyan is appealing to many.
With the film minting Rs 80 lakh in advance bookings in the US itself, the Rs 200-crore entry was well expected. As the audience continues to surge in Indian and global theatres, it is expected that Vettiyan will cross more such milestones.
