Moana 2 Trailer Unveils Her Next Adventure With Maui And New Song We’re Back
The makers of Disney’s high-anticipated Moana 2 have dropped a new preview featuring the song, We’re Back.

Disney’s eagerly awaited Moana 2 is set to hit the theatres this November, and the makers, adding fuel to the excitement, have released a preview of the film on Thursday, September 26. This sneak peek not only gives audiences a glimpse of the much-anticipated sequel but also treats them to one of its songs, We’re Back. The film reunites beloved characters Moana, voiced by Auli‘i Cravalho and Maui, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, as they embark on a fresh, exciting journey with a new team of adventurers. The story unfolds shortly after the events of the original film, released in 2016, highlighting Moana’s expanded role within her community.

The sequel shows Moana, who, after receiving a mysterious message from her wayfinding ancestors, sets out on a perilous journey through the far seas of Oceania alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. According to the film’s synopsis, this adventure is unlike any other she has faced, as Moana travels through dangerous, long-lost seas in search of answers from her wayfinding ancestors.

In the newly-released preview, an older and wiser Moana reveals her new purpose, stating, “The ancestors called on me to reconnect our people across the entire ocean. It’s my job as Wayfinder to finish what has started. It will be harder than anything we have faced before."

The preview highlights the song We’re Back, where Moana sings with determination, “Oh, finally, we’re back/ To who we’re meant to be." The song perfectly captures the spirit of her upcoming adventurous journey. In the preview, we also get to see Moana’s little sister, Simea.

Cravalho gave a live performance of the track earlier this year at Disney’s D23 event.

Apart from Cravalho and Johnson, Moana 2 is set to bring back familiar voices while introducing a fresh lineup to the story. Fans can expect the return of Rachel House as Gramma Tala, Temuera Morrison as Chief Tui and Nicole Scherzinger as Sina. Joining them will be new cast members Hualālai Chung, David Fane and Rose Matafeo, who will voice Moana’s new crew members, Moni, Kele and Loto. Awhimai Fraser steps in as the mysterious Matangi, while Gerald Ramsey takes on the role of Moana’s ancestor, Tautai Vasa. Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda will make her debut in the franchise as the voice of Simea.

Originally planned as a Disney+ series due to pandemic-related restrictions, Moana 2 has now been transformed into a full theatrical release, arriving in cinemas on November 27. According to reports, a live-action version of the first Moana film is scheduled for release in 2026.
