Malayalam actor and politician Mukesh's arrested has been recorded. He was let off after a medical examination.

Malayalam actor Mukesh, who is also an MLA in Kerala, appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Tuesday about the rape case filed against him. In the wake of the Hema Committee report, Mukesh was accused of rape and two cases have been registered against him. On Tuesday, September 24, the Kochi City police recorded the actor’s arrest and questioned him. He had already secured an anticipatory bail from a court in Kochi.

The Hindu reported that Mukesh will be let off after a medical examination. The reported added that the SIT team, led by Coastal AIG G. Poonkuzhali, questioned Mukesh for three hours before recording his arrest. His medical examination will follow and he will be let off thereafter. The media gathered outside the police station but Mukesh refused to comment on the investigation.

According to PTI, Ernakulam District and Sessions granted bail to Mukesh on September 5 in connection with the rape case. An FIR was registered under section 376 (rape) of the IPC against Mukesh. The actor-politician claimed that he is being blackmailed.

Mukesh isn’t the only one who has come under the scanner. An FIR has been filed against actor Jayasurya, and Edavela Babu as well. The FIR against Jayasurya has reportedly been registered under Section 354 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to intent to outrage a woman’s modesty. The accused have also been charged with sexual and verbal assault.

According to India Today, the actress recorded her statement with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) after accusing them in a Facebook post of verbal and physical abuse.

The cases of sexual assault in the Malayalam film industry are being reported ever since the findings of the Justice Hema Committee Report were made public earlier this month. Several actresses have accused male members of the industry of harassing them. So far, 17 cases have been filed. In the wake of the same, Mohanlal also recently resigned as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
