Janhvi Kapoor will soon be seen in Sharan Sharma’s Mr & Mrs Mahi alongside Rajkummar Rao. Recently, the actress was in Delhi to promote the film. The trailer was recently released, and it has sparked a lot of buzz among her fans. Talking about her intense training for the film, Janhvi said, “When I started prepping for the film – during Mili promotions – I was 8-9 kilos heavier. Sharan was very stressed. He said, ‘You don’t look like a cricketer and if you really want to do this film, you need to lose weight and need to start training in cricket. Mere jo coach they, Abhishek Nayar, who was my coach, said, ‘Jis tarah ki training aapke saath ki gayi hi, humare IPL players ke saath bhi nahi ki jaati – itna intense tha'(The kind of training that was done with you, even our IPL players don’t get – it was that intense). I used to practise in the nets with KKR players, who got recently recruited.” Janhvi also mentioned she practised everyday for hours at a ground in Bandra.
The makers have now released a behind-the-scenes clip showcasing the intense journey behind training the actress to play a cricketer. Janhvi also shared about her struggles and thanked her trainers for their constant support.
The makers recently dropped a behind-the-scenes clip of Janhvi’s transformation as Mahi including bytes from the director, Sharan Sharman, the coaches and the actress herself. In the clip, the director mentions that Janhvi was initially prepared, assuming the training would be similar to what she had done for Gunjan. But once the training started, she realised it was nothing like that. The coaches mentioned that Janhvi was taken for a cricket workshop, and she observed international cricketers as well. However, the journey was not an easy ride. During the training, the actress broke ligaments on both her shoulders. The director stated that they had discovered that Janhvi has something called MDI or multidirectional instability, which is good for dancers but not so much for cricketers. But she eventually recovered and finished her training. In the BTS, Janhvi also calls her the most unathletic person who had no knowledge about the sport.
She shared a glimpse of the BTS clip on her Instagram handle and wrote, “The two years of training that went into this film was such a huge part of my routine and life- that no one saw. Feels weird looking back at myself in all different shapes and sizes and levels of my game but the one thing that stayed with me the most was the courage, motivation, guidance and strength I got from the faith that both my coaches had in me. Abhishek Nayar and Vikrant Yeligeti thank you for everything!! And sorry for all the days I was irritating, I know there were a few.”
Mr. And Mrs. Mahi is all set to release on May 31.
