While the Targaryens are getting ready to head into the final battle, the House of the Dragon makers are battling a different war altogether on the outside. Another online leak has struck the hit HBO show, revealing crucial scenes from the Season 2 finale. On Tuesday night, several videos, including around 30 minutes from the unaired finale, were leaked on a TikTok account. The videos went viral instantly, prompting the makers to take immediate action and seek action. While the account was banned, the videos had already made their way onto other social media platforms.
In response to the early leaks on the internet, HBO has issued a formal statement, stating that they are aggressively monitoring the activities. The company also clarified that the clips were posted following an intentional release from an international third-party distributor.
“We are aware that clips from the House of the Dragon season finale have surfaced across social media platforms. The clips were posted after an unintentional release from an international third-party distributor. HBO is aggressively monitoring and removing clips from the internet, and fans can watch the episode in its entirety this Sunday night on HBO and Max," the statement read.
This is the second time that the show has faced such leak challenges. Earlier, the finale of House of the Dragon Season 1 also went online two days before the air date in October 2022. That time, it happened at the end of a distribution partner in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa, as per HBO.
On the other hand, Game of Thrones has also had its own share of online leaks throughout its eight-season run. Multiple episodes appeared on illegal sites and even on legitimate platforms like DirecTV Now and Prime Video’s German site. With so many distributors associated with the franchise, it seems nearly impossible to head off piracy and remain unspoiled ahead of schedule.
What’s Next For House Of The Dragon Season 2?
With the Greens and the Blacks remaining nowhere close to settling their differences, the second season seems to be building for a major battle, with all signs pointing to the Battle of the Gullet.
As seen in the finale trailer, Rhaenyra will have the chance to confront Aemond and Vhagar, advising them to act quickly. On the other hand, Aemond starts bringing up his own counter offensives, informing Helaena that she must fly her dragon into combat. A lot of dynamics can be expected from the conclusion episode including Aemond hurting his brother, King Aegon.
House of the Dragon Season 2’s finale episode will air on HBO on Sunday, August 4.
