Gulshan Devaiah Says Lootera's Box-office Failure Affected Ranveer Singh: 'People Didn’t Like It...'
Gulshan Devaiah recently talked about working with Ranveer Singh during a tough time in his career.

Gulshan Devaiah is one of Bollywood’s rising stars, proving you don’t need connections to succeed. With a knack for choosing unconventional roles and delivering stellar performances, he’s been making waves since his debut in Anurag Kashyap’s That Girl in Yellow Boots (2010). But his real breakthrough came with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013). Even though the film was all about Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, Gulshan held his own as Bhavani.

Gulshan Devaiah recently talked about working with Ranveer Singh during a tough time in his career, in a chat with Leheren Retro. He said Ranveer’s energy was overwhelming, and despite praise for Lootera (2013), the film didn’t do well at the box office. Gulshan also said that Ranveer was disappointed. “His films were not doing well at that time. Though he received a lot of appreciation for director Vikramaditya Motwane’s Lootera (2013), it didn’t do well business-wise. I think that had started affecting him, whether he wanted it or not. His first film (Band Baaja Baaraat) had done well, but his second film Ladies vs Ricky Bahl ended up being average (grosser). Though he was getting that stardom, such movies (Lootera) give you an unexpected opportunity and then you start rooting for people to like it since it’s such a beautiful story made by a really good director. And people didn’t like it as much as he wanted. It was a bit dull in the beginning,” Gulshan said.

Gulshan said that he noticed Ranveer’s mood improved once they started filming the musical scenes for Ram-Leela, bringing back his usual high energy. “He immediately came back to ‘his zone’. He is exactly like you think he is. Those who have known him since childhood also say that he’s been the same since then. His energy level is amazing. I used to walk away sometimes realising I can’t maintain the same energy. I used to get tired looking at his energy,” Gulshan said.

Gulshan Devaiah and Janhvi Kapoor, who worked together in Ulajh, were recently in the news when he said he didn’t “vibe” with her during the making of the film.

Ranveer Singh, on the personal front, just welcomed a baby girl with wife Deepika Padukone.
