Anurag Kashyap announced on Tuesday, August 27, that his iconic Gangs of Wasseypur films will be re-released in cinemas. The crime-comedy, starring Manoj Bajpayee, Huma Qureshi, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, will be back in theatres from August 30 to September 5. Anurag shared this news on his Instagram handle. “In three days the Gang will be back again, GOW back in cinemas (sic),” he wrote. He revealed that the tickets will be priced at Rs 149.
Gangs of Wasseypur is considered a cultural landmark in Indian cinema. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the gritty crime saga released in 2012 and turned into an instant cult classic. The movie’s raw portrayal of the coal mafia in Dhanbad, combined with its unforgettable characters and dialogues like “Keh ke lenge uski” and “Beta… tumse na ho payega,” has left a lasting impact on pop culture. From inspiring memes to being a launchpad for actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Pankaj Tripathi, the film has influenced both audiences and future filmmakers. Even years after its release, Gangs of Wasseypur continues to be a reference point for its intense storytelling and memorable dialogues.
Not long back, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, the actor shared that the atmosphere on set during those days was exceptional and is rarely seen now.
Recalling the experience, Tripathi had said, “I have such fond memories from the shoot of Wasseypur. It was winter in UP. The actors were all from a theatre background. Wasseypur jaisa mahaul ab set pe nahin milta. Ab alag alag vanity vans aati hai, sab apne apne room mein shot nahi hai toh bandh hai. Wasseypur mein aise nahin hota tha kyunki vanity hee nahin thi! Bahar kursi lagake baithte hai aur baatein zyada karte the (One cannot imagine such an atmosphere on any film set in today’s time. Today, celebs are usually in their own vanity vans when they are not in a shot. But back then, there were no vanity vans per se. They would lay out chairs for all of us outside, and we would sit and talk for hours).”
