Emmys 2024: REAL Reason Matthew Perry Was Not a Part of 'In Memorium' Segment
Matthew Perry died in October 2023. The actor was best known for his role in the sitcom Friends.

Emmys 2024 viewers were in for a shock when they noticed Matthew Perry’s name and picture missing from the ‘In Memorium’ segment. Matthew, best known for his role in Friends, died on 28 October 2023. Several fans were hoping that the prestigious awards show would include him as they honoured those who passed away in the last one year. However, they were surprised to see him excluded.

Angry social media users took to X to slam Emmys for seemingly forgetting to include him. “Did I miss it or did the Emmy’s not show Matthew Perry?” a fan asked. “Shame on you @TheEmmys for not including Matthew Perry in this year’s In Memoriam, given he passed away AFTER last year’s Emmy Awards!! #Fail,” added another.

However, the Emmys has not forgotten to include Matthew. The actor was honoured in the delayed Emmys awards ceremony that took place earlier this year. The tribute was not limited to just including his photo and name. Charlie Puth had performed the title track of Friends, I’ll Be There For You, to honour Matthew’s memory.

The Emmys 2023 was held in January this year after it was delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Meanwhile, this year, Jelly Roll performed his song “I Am Not Okay” as the awards show paid tribute to those who passed away in the last year. The showreel included many on and off-screen talents from the industry, including Richard Simmons, Martin Mull, Shannen Doherty, Carl Weathers, Richard Lewis, and Donald Sutherland. The awards show also honoured James Earl Jones’ memory. He died last week at age 93.

Audience at the awards show joined the singer to remember the talented artists.
