Dwayne Johnson, known for his role in Black Adam, took a trip down memory lane at the University of Miami’s Canes Fest on September 1. During the event, the 52-year-old actor and former college football player reconnected with his roots in a heartfelt way, engaging with the incoming class and sharing a bit of his journey.
Johnson, who joined the University of Miami football team in 1991, as noted by the College Football Hall of Fame, made an appearance at the university’s festival, where he distributed Papatui men’s skincare products to freshmen.
This gesture was more than just a product giveaway — it was a symbolic return to his college days, offering a slice of his personal experience to the new students.
The actor shared a video on Instagram, capturing the freshmen’s reactions as they tried out the Papatui products at a dedicated booth. Johnson expressed his delight with the caption, in the form of some practical advice.
“Cool full circle moment that I’m able to gift our Miami incoming freshman their PAPATUI so they can Take Better Care of themselves as they begin their exciting college journey,” he wrote.
The wrestler-turned-actor also infused a bit of his signature humour in the caption. He playfully reminded the students to “study hard, have fun and don’t get too drunk” on Thursday nights, “cos you still have class on Friday!”
Johnson’s visit was a nod to his impactful college football career, where he made a mark as a defensive lineman, recording “77 tackles and 4.25 sacks”.
Recalling his freshman year, he reminisced about the basics they were given — “three meals a day and a cot”.
In the video, students gave enthusiastic feedback on Johnson’s gift, with comments like, “It’s actually so good,” and “This one’s so tropical,” highlighting their positive reactions. Others chimed in with, “Yes, I love this,” and “Their products are amazing,” while trying the skincare products.

Johnson has consistently offered valuable insights to his fans, even sharing life lessons. In an earlier interview with PEOPLE, he reflected on his mother’s support during his troubled teenage years. He recalled her words of encouragement during tough times, reinforcing his belief in following one’s instincts.
“My mom has always been there, always my biggest fan. Even when I was a punk kid in high school, getting in trouble, getting arrested, she’d say, ‘I feel like the world will hear from you one day.’ This is as she’s picking me up from the police station! The love was boundless. The support was boundless,” Johnson shared. Reflecting further on his younger self, he added, “Keep doing what you’re doing. Let your gut guide you.”
