The Justice Hema Committee report has created a significant buzz in the Malayalam film industry. Several celebrities welcomed the report and stated that such a thing was very important as the cases of sexual abuse were increasing day by day in the industry. Many actors called for serious action against the perpetrators who are reneged in such crimes. In a recent development, popular director Jose Thomas mentioned that it was because of actor Jagadish, that AMMA’s (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) response to the report was delayed. Jose is also a member of the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA). He stated that Jagadish who was initially advocating for a strong stance on the report, intervened which caused the delay. It was mentioned by the director during a debate on News18 Kerala.
While speaking on the show, Jose explained that on that very day the Just Hema Committee report was released, there were plans for a joint press conference by FEFKA, AMMA, and the Kerala Film Producers Association. However, Jagadish intervened and stopped the press conference from happening.
Director Jose Thomas mentioned that FEFKA General Secretary B. Unnikrishnan had some discussions with Mammootty and Mohanlal about the joint press conference and they reportedly agreed to it. They initially decided to review the report and then take a decision on further actions. However, Jagadish stepped in and said that it was not the right time to hold the press conference. Everyone then agreed to the actor’s advice. “I don’t know if there is any kind of political motive behind Jagadish’s intervention, but I came to know about this from B. Unnikrishnan and I am not afraid to speak about this in public.”
Earlier, Jagadish had publicly called for a strong stance on the Hema Committee report. He was praised on social media for taking a firm stand within AMMA on the issue that women in the industry face every day. The revelation made by director Jose Thomas surprised everyone.
