Malayalam actor Asif Ali reacted to music composer Ramesh Narayan snubbing him at a recent event. The actor hosted a press conference on Wednesday afternoon and clarified that he is not hurt by Ramesh’s actions and thanked everyone who supported him. Asif also revealed that the musician called him up on Wednesday morning to talk to him about the incident.
“It was only a misunderstanding. The music composer was flustered as the organisers made a mistake by calling him with the wrong name and he reacted accordingly. As you can see, I moved to the side soon after I completed my task of presenting the award to him,” Asif said, as translated by Manorama.
He added that he was ‘overwhelmed by the love and support’ he received which made him realise ‘that there are a lot of Malayalis out there who are willing to support me.’ However, he condemned the hate social media users directed towards Ramesh. He urged fans not to engage in the hate campaign.
“I spoke to him this morning. He had been trying to reach me since yesterday. However, I had switched my phone off since I was unsure of how to respond to the media persons who had also tried to contact me for my response. It broke my heart to hear his troubled voice. He was on the verge of tears as he sought forgiveness from me. Please don’t turn this support for me into a hate campaign against him as I can understand the pain he is in,” Asif said.

For the unversed, Ramesh and Asif were attending the trailer launch of the upcoming Malayalam anthology, Manorathangal, where Asif was asked to present Ramesh with a memento. Ramesh allegedly refused to accept it from the actor.
Instead, he asked the anthology’s director Jayaraj to present him with the memento. Initially, the filmmaker hesitated to fill Asif’s shoes. However, he eventually caved and present the memento to Ramesh. The video of the same has gone viral on social media. Ramesh has been receiving backlash for his behaviour.
