Asha Negi, known for her television fame, opened up about a casting couch incident from her early career. In an interview, she recalled how a coordinator attempted to manipulate her, suggesting that compromising was the way to succeed in the TV industry. The coordinator claimed that many top TV actors had taken that route. Asha, in her early 20s at the time, resisted the pressure and reflected on the experience, sharing how unsettling it was to face such an approach so early in her career.
Asha recalled, “Back then, there were coordinators. This was some coordinator during that time, some random guy. I ended up meeting. I’m glad that we met and he started talking about television mein yeh woh, and I was in my early 20s. He was almost trying to brainwash me that this is what happens and this is how you will grow. He told me, jitne bhi bade TV actors hai, all have done it.”
Asha Negi explained that the coordinator didn’t directly ask her to compromise, but she sensed his intentions. Realising that this wasn’t the kind of career she wanted, she decided she wasn’t interested. Though she acted confidently, she was actually terrified. She remembered calling a friend for support, but her friend wasn’t surprised and brushed it off as something normal.
“I told him, ‘If this happens, then I’m not interested’… My friend just said, ‘All this happens; it’s normal.’ He wasn’t shocked at all,” she said.
Asha Negi is well known for playing Purvi Deshmukh Kirloskar in Pavitra Rishta. She later appeared as Gauravi Karmarkar in Baarish and took part in Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 6. Most recently, she starred in Honeymoon Photographer, which premiered on Jio Cinema on September 27. In this series, she played Ambika Nath, a photographer documenting the honeymoon of a wealthy couple, Adhir and Zoya Irani.
On the personal front, she was known for her relationship with actor Rithvik Dhanjani. Rithvikk and Asha dated each other for a couple of years before they parted ways, breaking the hearts of their fans. They announced their break-up in 2020 during the Covid pandemic.
