Alaya F, daughter of ’90s actor Pooja Bedi and businessman Farhan Furniturewala, recently opened up on her parents’ divorce. She mentioned that because their separation was amicable, she didn’t really understand the big deal about divorce until she was older. Alaya also shared that her mother is friends with her father’s second wife, and she is close to her step-brother.
Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Alaya said that when her parents divorced, she didn’t see it as a bad thing because her parents remained very friendly. “My parents were going their separate ways, but I would see them all the time, they were very, very friendly with each other also. Till today, they are great friends. My mom attended my father’s second marriage. I am extremely close to my step-mom. My half-brother, who I even hate calling half-brother because he is my brother, we have the same dad but different moms, is like a piece of my heart, my child. So I can’t imagine a life where my parents had stayed together,” she said.
Alaya said that she finds it strange to imagine life without her step-mother and half-brother. She sees her parents’ divorce as a positive thing and praises them for handling it well. She also said that when her friend’s parents were divorcing, she didn’t think it was a big deal because of her parents’ positive example. “In my head, divorce was never really a bad thing because my parents handled their divorce so beautifully. When my other friend was gong through something similar, I didn’t think it was a big deal. I was like, ‘Yeah, it will be good for you, it will be great for your family’, because that’s generally how I thought about divorce. My mom and step-mom are also very good friends,” she added.
In an old interview with Doordarshan, Pooja Bedi had opened up about her divorce from Farhan Furniturewala. The actress had spoken about not taking alimony money, starting everything from scratch and battling against all odds in showbiz to make a name for herself. Pooja said, “There’s a saying, where there’s a will, there’s a way. I was headstrong about the fact that I don’t wanna be in this marriage. This is a definite thing. Now I have to look around for solutions. My husband kept on saying I’m a perfect wife, why should I let you go? I said, maybe this is not a perfect marriage and maybe you are not a good husband, and I want to go.”
Pooja Bedi is the daughter of Indian actors Kabir Bedi and Protima Bedi. She has two children Alaya F and Omar F.
