Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, whose film Mirzya hits the theatre tomorrow has already given us some masterpieces including Rang De Basanti and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag; each of which is a cult in its own might.
The director is now back with a film that marks the directorial debut of Anil Kapoor’s son Harshvardhan and Saiyami Kher. The moment the viewers saw the trailer for the first time, they were captivated. As Rakeysh brings to screen the old tale of Mirza-Sahiban, here are 5 reasons why we’re looking forward to this film.
Debutants Harshvardhan and Saiyami Kher
This film is one of the most important releases this week as it marks the debut of Anil Kapoor’s son and Sonam Kapoor’s brother Harshvardhan. While Anil has tons of hits to his credit, Sonam has also carved her own niche in a short span of time. Apparently, Harshvardhan has undergone a rigorous training in order to do justice to the character he plays. Another one to make a first time appearance in Bollywood is Saiyami Kher. She has previously acted in a Telugu film ‘Rey’.
Mirza Sahiban Folklore
Mirza-Sahiban is one of the four popular tragic romances of Punjab that includes Heer Ranjha, Sohni Mahiwal and Sassi Punnun. It is believed that after this tale, the tradition of folk romances died out in Punjab. The story goes that Mirza Jatt fell in love with his cousin Sahibaan while studying together as kids. Not liking the growing intimacies, Sahibaan’s parents decided to marry her off to another man. However, Sahibaan eloped with Mirza on the day of her wedding. Fearing that Mirza would kill Sahibaan’s brothers, who were furiously searching for her, she broke each of Mirza’s arrows unaware of what destiny had in mind. When her brothers found them, they killed Mirza right away while he kept wondering as to why Sahibaan betrayed him.
Gulzar
It’s more than a brownie point for movie buffs as the script of this film is written by Gulzar! The well known lyricist, writer and director, whose last film released almost 15 years back, comes back with a promise of spell-binding story telling.
Stunning locales
As much as the star cast and the folklore is intriguing, the shoot locations are simply breathtaking. The aesthetic locales of Rajasthan and Ladakh have already proved to be a visual treat in the trailer.
Music
Penned down by Gulzar, the title track is composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. The entire album of the film consists of 15 songs in which 6 of them are based on Mirzya’s character. These 6 songs are composed by Daler Mehendi.
