For those swooning over the chiseled curves and the sculpted body of Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor, might want to pedestalise this woman who works just as hard to get these celebs into shape and is one of the mighty reasons behind their fabulous on-screen appearance.
Yasmin Karachiwala is known to be the most sought-after celebrity fitness trainer in Bollywood. Having been part of the fitness industry for 22 years, Yasmin knows how to work with every body type to transform it to its fittest form.
She is the proprietor of her own personal fitness studio and is constantly bustling with the who’s who of Bombay. She is also the first BASI certified Pilates instructor in India, and established the first Pilates studio in Bombay.
Yasmin plays multiple roles and life is not as simple as it might look. Being the proprietor, Yasmin has business responsibilities, being a trainer she has her clients to take care of.
"I am also a wife, a mother, a friend, a daughter. I try to live a balanced life, giving attention to all areas of my life, my own well being and that of my near and dear ones. In my business, flexibility is key, metaphorically, but literally also." says Yasmin
Yasmin's idea of fitness
"It is not only about a 6 pack, or endurance or a size zero. Rather it is about ‘being’ healthy. Health is about the body, the mind, the soul. And it is all interrelated. At Body Image, our focus is primarily on physical fitness and it extends beyond the exercise at the gym. We promote healthy eating (not dieting in the traditional sense), a healthy lifestyle of work-life balance." Yasmin tells News18.com.
"Mother Nature has been kind to me, and I am blessed with the knowledge to keep myself in shape. When I was younger I did briefly think about modelling, but then I discovered the path of fitness and there’s never been any looking back. My passion is fitness and my commitment is to make the world healthier, one person at a time."
Hours she spends at the gym
"Every day is unique. Every day is exciting. Everyday presents itself with some incredible opportunities for me to make the world a healthier place. I have my own fitness that I ensure I do not compromise, and of course I have my clients that I work with also. My hours are quite flexible, and I don’t really count my hours, nor do I have a regimented schedule. There are days when I am 'working' for 18 hours, and other days when I am at the gym for 2 hours. " says Yasmin Karachiwala
Sunday is no excuse to skip the gym for her.
Yasmin's Diet
Yasmin is not too fond of the word routine.
"When I think of my diet, I prefer to use balanced as an adjective. I ensure that I get all of my nutrients as every body needs fuel, and I like to keep my diet diverse." says Yasmin.
Yasmin as a Trainer
"My entire approach is very client-centric. I respect my clients' goals and allow that to drive how hard I have to push them. My job is to understand their goals, to formulate a plan to achieve those goals, and to educate my client on what is required." says Yasmin.
"I see myself as a coach, not a tyrant. If clients forget about their goals, I remind them, but they typically determine how hard they want to push themselves. I am a mere facilitator in helping my clients achieve their fitness goals."
What Motivates Yasmin?
She defines stumbling upon the world of fitness as an accident.
Yasmin on Pilates
Pilates focuses on engaging the mind and body together to create exercises that involve the whole person. It is known to strengthen the core, improves balance, increases coordination and decreases stress.
"Like I tell everyone, ‘Pilates makes you do whatever you’re doing in life in a better way’ whether you’re a gymnast, ballet dancer, sports person or a young mother, you will find that you move better, with more balance and definitely with more awareness."
Balance is The Key for Yasmin
Balance seems to be at the heart of everything for Yasmin.
"Do not neglect your overall well being. Pay attention to your physical being, but also pay attention to your soul. Be kind to yourself, work hard, play hard. Eat what you like. Dream. Be you want to be. And in all of this, remember to strike a balance."
Yasmin As A Friend and A Trainer
"Being naughty is the essence of staying young. We do goof around a lot in the studio when we’re not working out but when we work there is only commitment to achieve one’s goal.
Her Message to Women
"Your body is a temple. So is your mind. Don’t focus on looking beautiful, because you already are. Beauty does not lie in your appearance. It emanates from within you. Focus on your inner beauty, focus on your health. Don’t ever allow men to tell you that you are less than them. You are equal."
