It goes without saying that a healthy nervous system is crucial for maintaining one’s health and well-being. The nervous system is responsible for almost all bodily functions such as breathing, movement, and memory. The nervous system is responsible for exchanging signals and information between different parts of the body. Things such as chronic stress and lack of sleep can dysregulate one’s nervous system. An out-of-balance nervous system can manifest in a number of mental and physical symptoms. Here are some signs of an out-of-balance nervous system.
- Low focus: Your mood is chronically tired and you struggle with focusing on things that would previously interest you. The low focus makes it hard for you to make decisions or think clearly. You suddenly struggle with solving puzzles.
- Bad sleep: You are unable to rest and get uninterrupted seven to nine hours of sleep. This lack of sleep adds to your overall fatigue.
- Muscle tension, weakness, and numbness: You feel that your muscles feel “too tight” and prevent you from normal body movement or you feel numbness in your hands, fingertips, and legs. You are unable to carry weight due to muscle weakness.
- Irritability: You suffer from frequent bouts of irritability and have problems trying to manage your emotions and mood. You feel depressed and anxious without a traceable reason. You feel the need to be constantly doing something because of restlessness and are unable to sit still.
- Double vision: One with an out-of-balance nervous system often experiences double vision, gets blurred vision, and struggles with focusing on an object.
- Digestive issues: You suffer from digestive issues like constipation and diarrhoea. You may also experience bloating. The autonomic nervous system is responsible for regulating digestion and bowel movements, and with a dysregulated nervous system these functions suffer and one develops gut issues.
There are many ways of treating a dysregulated nervous system such as regular meditation, getting proper sleep, and working out. Breathing exercises and getting a massage also help people with feeling in tune with their body. However, if you suffer from extreme physical symptoms like numbness and double vision for a prolonged period then you must seek professional help.
