There has been a surge of Covid-19 cases yet again across the world. The cases of the new variant, JN.1 are also on the rise in India. The country has recorded 21 JN.1 cases till Wednesday. India reported 640 new Covid-19 cases and one death in Kerala in the past 24 hours and the active cases saw a jump to 2,997 from 2,669 the previous day. Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the overall risk posed by the new variant is low based on the current evidence. The Union Health Ministry, however, has urged people to exercise caution.
Since it is the winter season in India, there is also a surge of cases of flu, cold, cough and fever. Some of the symptoms are similar to Covid-19. Dr Sonia Rawat, Director of the Preventive Health and Wellness Department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, revealed that the Covid-19 virus is mutating and hence results in new variants or sub-variants. Each new variant may be more infectious than the other. She urged people to adhere to the old Covid-19 protocols and avoid going to crowded areas. It also means people have to go back to wearing masks and using sanitisers.
Dr Ajay Kumar, Director of Medical Services, Apollo Medical Hospital, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, revealed that there has been a change in the protein of sub-variant BA 2.86 of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 and hence JN.1 variant cases have risen. This was first reported in Luxembourg last September and has spread to other countries, especially India.
Let’s take a look at the symptoms of the new variant of Covid-19 JN. 1-
Dr Ajay Kumar shared the new symptoms of the new variant of Covid-19 JN.1. He said that the symptoms are quite similar to the old ones-

If you or someone you know shows such symptoms, then rush to the hospital and consult a doctor immediately. You might get tested so that the infection can be detected quickly. As per Dr Sonia Rawat, the symptoms of flu are similar to the new variants, but she urges people to keep an eye on the fever.
