The nominees for the prestigious Daesang (Grand Prize) at the 2023 SBS Drama Awards have been officially released by SBS on December 27. Among the distinguished contenders is Lee Je Hoon, recognised for his lead role in the highly successful Taxi Driver season 2 which achieved remarkable viewership ratings exceeding 20 percent, making it the top miniseries of 2023. Taxi Driver 2 shows Lee Je Hoon leading the misfit Taxi Driver family in seeking vengeance for the oppressed people of Korea.

Fusing high-flying action with comedy and drama, the series follows their quest for justice, delivering riveting moments as they confront powerful adversaries. Lee Je Hoon’s gripping performance as the protagonist adds depth to the narrative, making Taxi Driver 2 a standout miniseries in 2023.

Returning as a formidable nominee is Han Suk Kyu, acclaimed for his role in Dr. Romantic season 3, the beloved medical drama. The narrative revolves around the dedicated team at Doldam Hospital. In Dr. Romantic 3, Han Suk Kyu returns as Dr. Kim Sa Bu, the strong and determined leader of Doldam Hospital’s medical team.

The story unfolds as a state-of-the-art trauma center is set to open, presenting new challenges for the dedicated doctors. The narrative takes an unexpected turn when a crisis emerges involving a North Korean ship, testing the team’s skills and principles.

Kim Tae Ri also secures a spot among the nominees for her compelling portrayal in Revenant, where she embarks on a journey to uncover the truth behind mysterious deaths linked to five sacred objects. The storyline delves into a world where characters grapple with the supernatural.

Ku San Young, played by Kim Tae Ri, finds herself entangled in a series of mysterious deaths related to sacred objects. As she juggles part-time work and studies, the discovery of her late father’s articles sets off a chain of events that not only reveals supernatural elements but also leads to a personal transformation. The plot intricately weaves together suspense and the supernatural, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats.

Completing the esteemed list of Daesang nominees is Kim Rae Won, lauded for his realistic portrayal of action scenes in The First Responders. The series dives into the joint operations of a police force and a fire department.

Detective Jin Ho Gae, portrayed by Kim Rae Won, brings a fierce determination to catch criminals, utilising his keen investigative skills. Meanwhile, firefighter Bong Do Jin rushes into danger without hesitation, showcasing both bravery and compassion. The addition of Song Seol, an empathetic paramedic, adds emotional depth to the narrative as she tends to both physical wounds and broken hearts.
