'Virat Will Play for a Long Time': West Indies Legend Believes Kohli Can Achieve the Feat of Sachin Tendulkar
Given his age, reaching the milestone of 100 hundreds is uncertain but former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd feels that Virat Kohli can still do it.

Virat Kohli’s excellence across formats makes him one of the great players of the current era. With over 26000 runs in 520 international cricket, Kohli has been ruling the world of cricket for more than a decade now. The experts believe that the 35-year-old batter would match Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record for 100 centuries. And the belief, that Kohli will reach that colossal feat, has turned stronger since he surpassed the master blaster with a 50th ODI hundred last year, in the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium.

At the moment, Kohli has 80 tons – 29 in Tests, 50 in ODIs and 1 in T20Is – to his credit. He requires 20 more tons to equal Sachin’s tally. Given his age, reaching the milestone of 100 hundreds is uncertain but former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd feels that Kohli can still do it.

Speaking at an event in Kolkata, he said, “I do not know about the period, but he is young enough, and I’m sure that the way he is playing he can achieve anything that he wants to. And it would be something to be quite happy to achieve,” Lloyd was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

The 2-time World Cup-winning captain was asked about the comparison between Kohli and West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards.

Lloyd said, “Virat Kohli and Viv Richards are two different types of cricketers. So, there is no comparison. Virat will play cricket for a long time. He can achieve many things. He can also achieve the feat of Sachin Tendulkar. He has that capability and has time in his hand.”

Lloyd wants to see more Test cricket on the international calendar and prefers a minimum of three red-ball games in a bilateral series.

“At the moment probably they’re having too many T20s and stuff. I’d like to see a little bit more Test cricket. And if you’re playing Test cricket, I’d prefer three Test matches or five,” said the former West Indies.

“I don’t think the West Indies should travel to Australia, 12,000 miles, for two Test matches. And it doesn’t make sense. Like the other day, it’s one-all (in India South Africa series). Now the other Test would have shown who was the better of the two teams,” he added.
