Paris: A 14-year-old girl who survived Tuesday's crash of a Yemenia Air Airbus A310 told her father that the accident occurred suddenly and that she heard other survivors in the water, France 24 news station reported on Wednesday.
"Everything went black, and we went down," Bakari Bahiya told her father Bakari Kassim over telephone, according to the report.
She then found herself in the water with other survivors, she said.
"I heard people talking around me in the darkness," she said. "And after a while I didn't hear any talking any more. I just hung on."
The girl, whose given name Bahiya means Hope in English, was found clinging to a piece of wreckage and is the only confirmed survivor of the 153 people aboard the plane that crashed in waters off the Comoros Islands.
Her mother, who was travelling with her, is missing and presumed killed.
