CUTTACK: Tension prevailed in Station Bazaar area on Thursday evening when Youth Congress activists squared off with the GRP police over alleged misbehaviour by the SDPO Trinath Mishra. The activists led by Cuttack Lok Sabha unit president Santosh Bhol staged a dharna in front of the GRP police station demanding action against the SDPO. They alleged that Mishra abused and threatened them when they came to enquire about non-acceptance of a complaint of a bike theft. According to Bhol, a motorcycle belonging to one Dipu of Pithapur area was stolen from the vicinity of the Railway station on Wednesday. When he went to the GRP police station to lodge his complaint, the police allegedly did not accept his FIR and turned him away. On being informed, Bhol and some of his party members went to the police station to enquire why the FIR was not accepted. They were then allegedly misbehaved by the SDPO, who arrived at the spot at the time. More than 30 YC activists then staged a dharna in front of the police station for over two hours before GRP SP BD Behera arrived and persuaded them to withdraw. The outfit has threatened to stage a hunger strike before the office of the DGP if no action is taken against the SDPO within 15 days. “We have received a memorandum from them,” SP Behera said.
