PARADIP: Work on the coastal road resumed on Tuesday with the cooperation of locals sans police and district officials. The foundation of the road was laid on August 19 but the work had to be stopped midway following protests by the people. The construction agency pressed its men and equipment at Bosecallis point near Dhinkia at 10 in the morning. It has been a peaceful affair so far. The 10-km coastal road will link Mahal near IOCL refinery to the proposed Posco site.Posco officials led by its director Y K Kim and IDCO manager Sangram Mohapatra had expressed satisfaction over the progress on the coastal road during their visit.Meanwhile, hundreds of villagers including women and children staged a demonstration at Gobindpur on Tuesday protesting illegal demolition of betel vines.Sources said after the arrest of anti-Posco leader Abhay Sahu, activists of Posco Pratirodha Sangram Samiti have changed their strategies restricting the agitation to land acquisition for the proposed project and demolition of betel vine.In another development, Collector  Narayan Chandra Jena held discussions with the villagers of Gadakujang on Monday evening. Paradip ADM Surjeet Das said work would resume only with the consent of the villagers.
