Why can't women be allowed in Sabarimala temple: Supreme Court
The apex court said women cannot be denied entry into the temple as long as the Constitution permits to do so.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday asked why cannot women be allowed to enter the Sabarimala temple in Kerala. The apex court said women cannot be denied entry into the temple as long as the Constitution permits to do so.

"Can entry of women be regulated on basis of any criteria other than that of religion?," the top court said.

The top court further asked the Kerala government to submit an affidavit in the case. The next hearing on this matter is on February 8.

Women are not allowed inside the temple after they attain puberty. Post menopausal women, however, are allowed. In 2015, the Chairman of Travancore Devasom Board, which runs Sabarimala stirred a hornet's nest when he said women should be allowed in the temple only after a machine to detect their purity is invented.

What's your reaction?
