With the government toying with radical ideas in the education sector and planning to open the doors for private universities in the state, SCMS group of educational institutions has plans to set up a university in Kochi.
“We will submit a proposal to start a university as soon as the policies are in favour. Around 30 acres of land is required for the varsity and we have four institutions and the land we can source the funds. But the government has to bring in a new university Act which allows the setting up of private universities. Ours will probably be the first private university in the state,” said GPC Nayar, chairman of the group, against the backdrop of Emerging Kerala 2012.
Already the SCMS Group of institutions has presented the project to set up an academic complex on 10 acres of land on the Smart City campus at an investment of `150 crore at Emerging Kerala.
“We had talks with the representatives of Teecom and will start work as and when the Smart City work commences.
This is a support service catering to the IT executives.
The complex will comprise classes from play school, LKG classes to higher secondary school, high-tech engineering college, a business school and a state-of-the art management and technology training institute.
When IT companies come up in Kakkanad, an educational complex is the need of the hour for the people in the area.
It would offer quality education from the primary level to the tertiary level. The project is slated to be completed within four years.
