New Delhi: With each death the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh takes a more sinister turn. Till now dozens of people having connection with the scam have died mysteriously.

A day after India Today Group journalist Akshay Singh died in Madhya Pradesh while reporting on the Vyapam scam, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister confirmed to Home Minister Rajnath Singh that his viscera will be sent to Delhi for further forensic tests following protests.

Sources told CNN-IBN that Shivraj Singh Chouhan conveyed this to the Home Minister when they spoke on the phone on Sunday.

Akshay Singh's sister had written a letter to the Chief Minister asking that his viscera should be sent to Delhi for examination.

The reporter Akshay Singh had on Saturday called on the parents of Namrata Damor, whose body had been found under mysterious circumstances near railway tracks in Ujjain district.

On Sunday morning, Dr Arun Sharma, the dean of a medical college in Jabalpur and suspected of having links to some accused in the Vyapam scam, was also found dead under mysterious circumstances in a Delhi hotel on Sunday.

He is the second dean of the medical college who has died under mysterious circumstances. His predecessor DK Sakale was found dead in July, 2014 with 90 per cent burns.

The Vyapam scam has become a major political controversy with numerous witnesses and accused dying under mysterious circumstances. The Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam relates to irregularities in admission in state-run medical colleges and recruitment in government jobs.

Alleged financial and administrative irregularities, including unauthorised disposal of application forms, worth crores of rupees by the MPPEB have been pointed out in an audit report.

The MPPEB conducts entrance and recruitment tests for admission in medical and engineering courses, and selection in certain government services, among others.

It has been alleged that corrupt officials at the board took money to compromise the examination and recruitment for several professional courses. These courses include pre-engineering, pre-medical, MCA, teaching among others.
