Vijay Sai Reddys bail set aside

HYDERABAD: The High Court on Friday set aside the bail granted to V Vijay Sai Reddy, an accused in the Jagan Mohan Reddy illegal assets case. It, however, rejected the CBI’s request that he be ordered to surrender immediately, and gave him time till Monday.While pronouncing this order on a petition moved by the CBI against the bail granted by the special CBI court, judge K C Bhanu directed the lower court to restore the bail petition of Vijay Sai Reddy and take an appropriate decision on it after hearing both parties.The judge found that the reasons cited by the lower court for granting bail were not sufficient.As per Supreme Court directions, there is a need to assess the gravity of the charges against an accused, and the possibility of he going underground or threatening or influencing witnesses.While citing a memo submitted by the CBI in the lower court stating that the investigation in the case was incomplete, the judge said the memo should have been considered before granting bail to Vijay Sai Reddy.It was not correct to give bail only because the CBI failed to arrest the other accused in the case, the judge said.The CBI’s counsel had argued in court Thursday that the agency has not shown any discrimination in arresting Vijay Sai Reddy but not other accused; if needed, it would arrest the others too.
