Uttarkashi: Heavy rains continue to wreak havoc across several states, but facing the brunt is Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district. A bridge was swept away between Bhatwari and Sukitop leaving 50 tourists stranded.

The phone networks are down and essential supplies are running low. The Indian Air Force will be air-lifting over 600 tourists who have been stuck in the Gangotri region.

"We have got an interim assistance of 150 crore, the government is offering full assistance. A number of helicopters have been provided, which will help evacuate tourists and also they will distribute food to the affected. We have announced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh," Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said.
