New Delhi: United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is visiting Pakistan on Wednesday. He will meet the top leadership of the country including Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Geelani.
The UN Secretary General's visit provides a good opportunity to exchange views on global and regional issues, a Pakistan foreign ministry statement said.
"Pakistan attaches great importance to the United Nations and highly values the visit by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon," the statement said.
Ban's visit comes two days after the kidnapping of a UN refugee head in Pakistan's southwestern province of Balochistan.
John Solecki was kidnapped and his driver was shot dead after his vehicle was ambushed on Monday in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan. Solecki was going to office from his nearby residence when gunmen in a white car opened fire on his vehicle.
Ban will be in Delhi on Thursday to attend TERI's sustainable development summit. He's also likely to call on External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee during his visit.
