ULFA to begin peace talks on February 10
ULFA admitted the killing of NGO activist Sanjoy Ghose and Dhemaji blast was a mistake.

New Delhi: The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) on Saturday admitted that the killing of NGO activist Sanjoy Ghose and the bomb blast of Dhemaji on Independence Day in which children were killed was a mistake.

At a press conference in Guwahati ULFA Vice Chairman Pradeep Gogoi, Foreign Secretary Sasha Chowdhury and Publicity Secretary Mithinga Daimari, announced that the ULFA will formally start peace talks with the Indian government on February 10 in New Delhi.

The three leaders, who were recently released from jail, also said that the talks will be held without any pre-conditions.

ULFA Publicity Secretary Mithinga Daimari said, "We are going for talks without any pre-conditions. If we include 'sovereignty' as pre-conditions, these talks will not happen."

Daimari said that a section of the people had floated a lot of confusion about the talks and requested the people of Assam to be alert to that. "For the sake of safeguarding the identity of all indigenous people of Assam, we will ensure that talks are not derailed," he said.

ULFA is looking for political solution after more than three decades of a violent insurgency. Earlier, talks failed as both the Indian Government and ULFA put pre-conditions for talks.

The agenda for talks will be decided by Assamese intelligentsia.

Meanwhile, Paresh Barua remains the Commander-in-Chief of ULFA. No decision has been taken on declaring ceasefire as yet and ULFA leaders have made it clear that they will have zero involvement in the coming elections.
