KOCHI: Eyeing the majority of Christian votes in Piravom, the UDF leaders did not leave any stone unturned in wooing the votes based on religion in the constituency. Referring to the ‘Last Supper poster’ controversy, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala on Friday said that the CPM had tried to defame Jesus Christ for gaining political mileage.“They knew that the pictures of Marx or Lenin could no more draw the attention of the public. That is why they opted for the picture of Jesus, he said. Chennithala pointed out that, during its five-year-rule, the LDF had been trying to defame religious leaders.Chennithala said that instead of discussing people’s issues, the CPM was debating on who should be given capital punishment during its state conference. The KPCC president reiterated that the election would surely review the performances of the nine-month-old Chandy government and the previous LDF government. “The Chandy government is moving ahead accepting the people’s mandate,” he said.
