The arrested terrorists were planning to kill Jagdish Tytler who has been accused of being involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Ludhiana: The Punjab Police arrested three suspected Babbar Khalsa terrorists on Sunday.

The terrorists, held in Ludhiana, were planning attacks on Congress leaders Bhajan Lal and Jagdish Tytler.

"The main aim of these rebels was to target some of the VIPs specifically Baba Bhaniarewala, Baba Ashutosh, Jagdish Tytler and Bhajan Lal," said Senior Superintendent of Police, R K Jaiswal.

Tytler, who was a minister in the UPA government at the Centre, had recently resigned after the Nanavati report on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots accused him of helping the mobs involved in the looting and killing of the Sikhs following the assassination of the then prime minister Indira Gandhi.

The arrest of the terrorists-Manpreet Singh, Chamkor Singh, and Bhagavan Singh-also led to the recovery of a huge consignment of arms and ammunition, including more than two kilograms of RDX.

According to the police Manpreet Singh, had gone to Pakistan via Bangkok in May this year and met the chief of Babbar Khalsa, Wadhawa Singh.
