Two die in van-bus collision

CHENNAI: Two persons including an engineering student died in a road accident as a mini bus and load van collided at Thirumullaivoyal on Friday night. Police said that 17 students from a private engineering college at Thirupachur, Thiruvallur district, were on their way to Villupuram for a wedding of a fellow student’s brother. They were travelling in a mini bus driven by Rajaram (40) of Ambattur. On CTH road near Thirumullaivoyal police station, the bus collided with a load van carrying rice bags, around 11.15 pm on Friday.Both driver Rajaram and student Venkatachalapathy (21) from Krishnagiri district studying third mechanical engineering, who was seated to the left of the driver, sustained head injuries and died while being taken to Kilpauk medical college hospital. Five other students, who sustained injuries, were admitted to a private hospital at Arumbakkam. Van driver Krishnan (40) of Balaji Nagar, Velachery, was arrested and remanded to judicial custody for drove his vehicle in an inebriated state. Poonamallee traffic police that registered a case.
