HYDERABAD: The crisis triggered by the mass resignations of Telangana MLAs and MPs further intensified on Tuesday with more number of leaders putting in their papers and protests erupting in different places including at the Osamania and Kakatiya universities.So far, as many as 100 legislators including 12 Telangana ministers have submitted their resignations.Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, who represents Mahaboobnagar in the Lok Sabha, and his party colleague MP Vijayashanthi (Medak) were the first to join the quitters’ queue this morning. Seven of the party’s 11 MLAs followed suit after a meeting with their supremo at the Telangana Bhavan. Another MLA Ch Ramesh, who is away in Germany, faxed his resignation. The remaining three TRS legislators, who were suspended by the party recently for anti-party activities, also resigned. Speaking to reporters, the TRS MLAs made light of the possibility of the imposition of President’s Rule in the State. “The State can be divided even under Central rule,” TRS Sircilla MLA and KCR’s son KT Rama Rao said. All the four CPI MLAs - G Mallesh, V Yadagiri Rao, K Sambasiva Rao and Chandravathi Banot - also submitted their resignations to Legislature Secretary S Raja Sadaram as did the two BJP MLAS - G Kishan Reddy and Y Lakshminarayana.At the end of the day, up to one third of the members in the Assembly put in their papers. Except for seven MIM MLAs, a few Congress legislators including two ministers and two legislators of the CPM and Lok Satta, the rest of the Telangana MLAs have resigned.TDP MPs from Telangana, Nama Nageshwar Rao and Ramesh Rathod also met Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and put in their papers. Emerging out of the meeting, Rao demanded that the Centre abide by its December 9, 2009 statement on separate Telangana.
