Tribes India, the retail network of the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd (Trifed), under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs will open their new showrooms in Kanyakumari and Kovalam on Wednesday.
The showrooms will display tribal products crafted and sourced from across the country.
Art materials, tribal paintings, terra cotta and stone pottery, cane and bamboo, organic food products, metal crafts, tribal textiles, tribal jewellery, gifts and novelties will be exhibited in the showrooms for sale.
The Kanyakumari showroom is set up at Hotel Narmada Building, Bus Stand Road. Swami Gururatna Jnana Tapasawi, organising secretary, Santhigiri Ashram will open the showroom.
The Kovalam showroom is set up on Beach Road, Kovalam. It will be inaugurated by M Ayyappan, chairman and managing director, HLL Life Care Ltd.
Kovalam showroom is the second one in the state apart from that functioning in Fort Kochi.
Jiji Thomson, managing director of Trifed said that the showrooms will be a new initiative aiming to empower tribal artists and artisans from across the country. With the opening of the two new showrooms, Tribes India will have 29 showrooms across the country.
