In a clash between students of two city colleges, three students of Pachaiyappa’s College and a woman passenger of a bus were injured and the wind shield of a State-run bus was damaged here on Monday.
Police said students from a rival gang from Presidency College allegedly attacked the Pachaiyappa’s College students on board an MTC bus (Route No 29E) running between Perambur and Tiruverkadu, at Perambur Bus Depot. The injured were identified as Sathish, Kadir, and Gopi.
TASMAC salesman robbed
A gang of three reportedly robbed a salesman of a state-run liquor shop of `1 lakh at knife point on Sunday.
Police said Murugaiah (35), the salesman of TASMAC-operated liquor shop on 100 ft Road in Taramani, had closed the sales at 10 pm on Sunday and was counting the collection when the gang interrupted him. They came in a motorcycle and insisted that he sold liquor to them. When Murugaiah refused, they brandished a knife and escaped with the entire day’s collection.
Cine producer dies
The city police have registered a case following the death of film producer AVM Murugan (77), the eldest son of AV Meyyappa Chettiyar, here on Monday.
Sources said that the septuagenarian’s son Karthick Meyyapppan lodged a complaint stating that his father had gone to a friend’s house in Maduravoyal where he reportedly died.
He sought the help of the police to find out the cause of his father’s death as he suspected foul play. Maduravoyal Inspector G Anand Babu said that the deceased suffered from chest pain. “We are awaiting the post-mortem results that would help establish the actual cause of death,” he said.
House burgled
A retired Central Government employee’s house was burgled during the wee hours of Monday.
Police said Thiraviyam, (67), former Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, had gone to Cumbum on August 24 leaving his residence in Thirumangalam locked. He had informed his son Vinod, who lived in Mogappair, to keep a tab on the house. On Monday morning, the neighbours informed Thiraviyam that the house doors were found to have been forced open. Details of valuables lost was not immediately known.
