TIRUCHY: Thousands witnessed the Chithirai car festival of Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy temple here at early morning on Friday. People from several districts of the State besides those from various parts of the country gathered at Srirangam to have a darshan of Lord Namperumal, who was taken in a procession around the streets of the temple. Devotees from other parts of India and distant places of TN arrived on Thursday itself and spent the night near the temple. The buses to Samayapuram were full on Friday, since most of the devotees who visited Srirangam chose to go to Samayapuram to witness the float festival on Friday. Residents of Srirangam and Thiruvanaikoil were in for a pleasant surprise as there was no power cuts on Friday due to the Chithirai car festival.
