With not much snow forecast for the immediate future, things could return to normal sooner rather than later.

New York: The snowstorm in New York City dropped 27 inches of snow over the weekend, a record high.

Several flights, including those from India, had to be diverted.

A raging nor'easter howled its way up the East Coast on Sunday, breaking a snowfall record in New York, shutting down airports and dumping more than two feet of snow on some parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states.

However, on Monday, the first workday after the blizzard over the weekend there were mounds of snow on sidewalks as New Yorkers returned to work.

But walking on the slushy and icy streets wasn't easy for them, or for those visiting New York.

Says Rajesh CB, a tourist in New York, "It was freezing when we ventured out of our house in the morning."

While traffic was moving on the roads and the subway trains were running, the city's three airports remained affected.

A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the airports, told us that operations were "recovering nicely" but couldn't say when they would return to normal.

It was tough for travelers from India, as flights operated by carriers such as Air India and Continental had to be diverted to Canadian cities like Vancouver and Toronto before finally reaching New York after a delay of several hours.

However, things may literally brighten up, as the temperatures are inching above freezing point. But with not much snow forecast for the immediate future, things could return to normal sooner rather than later.

What's your reaction?
