Mumbai: Director Ram Gopal Varma has begun filming 'The attacks of 26/11', a film based on the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai. The 49-year-old ever-experimenting filmmaker said that it is one of the most important films of his career.
"Today is the 1st day of shooting of the most important film of my career 'The attacks of 26/11'. That is because its on the most important event that ever happened...if not in scale and damage and tragedy just in sheer complexity it beats even 9/11," Varma wrote on Twitter.
The director, who had visited the Taj Mahal hotel with the then Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and actor-son Ritesh Deshmukh soon after the attacks, had denied plans of a movie on the tragedy amid huge public and media outcry.
Varma, who is known for attracting publicity through unconventional methods, was slammed for being insensitive to the victims of the terrorist attacks at that time.
He has, however, gone ahead with the movie, which he says is primarily meant for the international audience and is being made with a budget of around Rs 40 crores.
"The film is primarily meant for an international release and is being made at a budget of around 40 crore. The attacks of 26/11 will detail every aspect of the carnage beginning with the terrorists taking over Amar solankis trawler 'Kuber'," Varma tweeted.
The film has a new set of actors.
"It is being done with a completely new cast and is going to be shot in languages in which the actual people spoke that is Urdu, Hindi, English and Marathi," he said.
