HYDERABAD: Slogans, protests, rallies and rasta rokos marked the first day of Sakala Janula Samme launched across Telangana region on Tuesday in support of separate statehood. The government employees staged protest demonstrations at their respective offices, while political parties along with students, advocates, and other people’s organisations came on to the roads.Raising slogans in support of Telangana, they held sit-ins and other forms of protest. A day after the Jana Garjana public meeting organised by the TJAC, Karimnagar district came to a standstill as employees, political parties, students and others staying away from work. At the district collectorate, employees staged a dharna. Several government offices were locked up and TNGO district president Hameed declared no employee signed the attendance register. Students took out rallies and formed human chains. Except for priests offering daily puja, all other employees in major temples like Sri Raja Rajeswara Swamy temple at Vemulawada have abstained from their duties.In Nalgonda, government employees staged dharnas in and boycotted duties. The Telangana Private School Managements Association also supported the strike and the students took out rallies and organised rasta rokos in various places bringing the traffic to a halt.Kothagudem MLA K Sambasiva Rao, Congress leader A Krishna and other leaders organised road blockades at Murredu bridge connecting Bhadrachalam to Hyderabad in Khammam district disrupting the traffic for about two hours. The government teachers’ unions announced that they would take part actively in the strike from Sept 16. BJP and TRS leaders took out a massive rally.In Mahaboobnagar, former minister Jupally Krishna Rao and other leaders participated in a mass demonstration.
